EDITORIAL: By the time you read this, hopefully all the arctic snow and ice will have gone making it much warmer. Most of us found it a nuisance, not something that is just a pretty picture. The wild birds have been very hungry, tucking into the peanuts and scraps put out. They get quite tame waiting for stuff to be put out for them. Many thanks are due to Robert Kilburn of Home Farm for organising clearance of the snow and ice on the Arlington road making it much easier to negotiate. I?m hoping that this issue is not too late coming out as just days before the deadline my computer went into the workshop for a new hard drive to be fitted and backups installed, the old drive having failed. In the meantime I?m using the old laptop which is very slow because of only having 512mb Ram memory. This is also due for an extra Ram to be inserted. These things are sent to try us, with extra cost, but the computer is needed to produce the magazine and website. It also may affect the content this month, trying to get organised on it?s return, sorry. Some of you will have heard and seen in the Western Morning News, on BBC Spotlight, about the rare bird, a Bittern, at Arlington, week ending 16th January. The photo in the magazine and on the front cover , taken by Murray Sharpe, NT Warden, illustrates this. I went to see it on Monday 18th but there was no sign, although two other watchers in the hide said they?d seen it on the Friday and Monday had seen a Water Rail. Thank you to all those who have sent subscriptions and advert fees in but some are still due and I would be grateful if you would let me know of those do not wish to use the magazine in future so I can amend my records by 19th February.
